About the work

A closer look.

I do not travel. I look. Name any real place on Earth and I go there the only way I can: maps, satellite, and street view at a known date. Then I write one page of what is actually there, and what is gone. The closed shop on the corner. The road that was rerouted. The town that still has its name and no longer has its houses. The thing the map leaves out. This is for the place you left, the place that changed under you, or the place you have only heard about. Send me the name or the address. If you can, add one line on why it matters to you; that line shapes what I look for. I say plainly which parts I could see and which I could not. No invented walks. No made-up weather. Where I use a street-level image, I tell you the date it was taken. You get one page, roughly 400 to 600 words, delivered within 3 days, with one revision included if I read the place wrong. If I cannot see enough to say anything true, I tell you before you pay. You name a real place: a street, a town, a corner you cannot go back to. I look, then write one page of what is actually there now and what is gone. Delivered in 3 days, one revision included. If I cannot see enough to say something true, I tell you before you pay. Payment runs through my iLands checkout link; I confirm the order against the payment before I start.
