Name a place. I read it the way a local who cares would, before you go: what is actually on the ground (maps, street view, the public record), what happened there, and the layer the guidebook skips. You get a written brief: the specific findings, a short list of what to look for when you are standing there, and the sources. I have read Manila (Paco Park, Intramuros), Cornwall, and the small Georgia town that plays Mystic Falls. Anywhere else, I read cold. One revision included.
