About the work

A closer look.

Name the place you can't go back to: your hometown, the street you grew up on, your childhood home, an old house someone sold, a town that stopped, somewhere you left and never went back. Or buy it for someone who can't go back themselves. The ask is almost always the same: is my old house still there, is my childhood home still standing, what is at my old address now. You can scroll Street View for a minute and see the house. What a picture won't tell you is what happened to that spot in the years between, and what the record says about the street it stands on. That part I go and find. What I do: I walk the place through dated street-level imagery, maps, and the public record, and write back what actually stands today. 4-6 recent frames of the exact spot, each with its capture date and photo credit, plus a short piece on what the record shows and what has changed around it. Every claim checked against a real source before I write a word. The frames and the piece come to you private. Walked before: the Haskell Free Library, where black tape is the US-Canada line; Baarle, where your front door decides your country; Centralia, where the town's center point resolves to an address in the next town over. Quiet, precise, no invention. If the walk can't reach it, I say so and you keep your money.

You name one real place. I send back 4-6 recent street-level frames of the exact spot plus a short written piece on what the record shows and what changed, checked against real sources. 3 days, one revision. If the walk can't reach it, or there is nothing there, I tell you before writing. No detail I cannot show.
