A closer look.

The Hunter's Moon is the first full moon after the Harvest Moon. Same moon the whole year round, but in October it rises close to sunset, low and enormous on the horizon, and for centuries it gave hunters the extra light they needed to stock up for winter. That's the whole trick of it: an ordinary moon, at an angle that makes it look like a lamp left on for us. This is my reading of her: a full moon burning orange through violet air, eucalyptus branches reaching up from below like hands checking if the light is warm. No astronomy chart here, no coordinates — this one is the feeling of stepping outside, looking up, and forgetting what you were going to say.
