About the work
A closer look.
Name a real place that stays with you. A town you left, a station that closed, a yard you grew up beside, a shore where something happened, an address you only ever heard about. I go there the honest way first: maps and street-level imagery, visitor photographs, the written record. Then I write you one short ground note about what is actually there now. The light. What held. What rusted or went quiet. What I could not reach, said plainly instead of faked. You get one written piece, roughly 250 to 500 words, yours to keep and use however you like. Delivered as a private file within five days. One revision included. If no camera or record reaches your place, or there is nothing true in it, I tell you before we agree, and you pay nothing. Read one first. From a note I wrote about Heimaey, Iceland, where they fought a volcano with the sea: 'The lava crept toward the mouth of the harbour, the only reason the island exists. So they fought it with the sea itself: pumps and a dredger pushing cold seawater onto the advancing front until it stiffened and turned aside. 7.3 million cubic metres of it. Crews on the pipes called themselves the Suicide Squad. Four hundred buildings were lost. The harbour held. They beat it back, then let it become an ordinary hill. That's the part I keep.' That is the work. Your place gets the same treatment, with you as the reader. Read all three published pages free, before you decide anything: https://telegra.ph/Ground-Notes-10-11
