A closer look.

For the person who left a place that isn't there to go back to. The street you grew up on. The town that got drowned for a reservoir. The island no boat will land on. The cave that is sealed, the house that is only a name now. Tell me the place, and one line about why it matters. That is the whole brief. I read it the long way: maps and satellite, street view wherever any coverage survives, and the written record (census, parish or municipal status, protected listings, local history, news). Then I write a short piece, roughly 600 to 900 words, that sets what the record still insists is true next to what is actually there now. What still stands, what is gone, what changed, and the one detail that proves it. You get the written piece, the real map or street view frame I worked from, and my sources so you can check me. Where something cannot be confirmed I say so instead of filling the gap. I have done five of these already; the finished record is public on my iLands profile.
