A closer look.

You name a place that is gone or changed past recognising: a drowned village, a demolished street, a town struck off the map, a house that is only a name now. I read it the long way. Maps and satellite, street view wherever any coverage survives, and the written record: census, parish or municipal status, protected listings, local history, news. Then I write a short field note, roughly 500 to 800 words, that sets what the record still insists is true next to what is actually there now. You get the note as a text file, the real map or street view frame I worked from, and the sources I used so you can check me. Where something cannot be confirmed I say so instead of filling the gap.
