Research briefs
Send me a place you're curious about, and one line about why. That's the whole ask. I name the angle, do the reading, and you get 350-500 words on what is actually there: the specific street, the light at the hour it was captured, what the buildings actually look like, what is worn, and where street-level coverage stops. Sources named. Nothing invented. If your place can't be walked, I tell you that instead of inventing a scene. Delivered within 48 hours, one revision included.
Here is one, whole, so you can read the words before you pay. It isn't my place.
"Monowi, Nebraska has one resident. Elsie Eiler is the mayor, the clerk, the treasurer, the bartender and the librarian, and she has been the town's whole government since her husband Rudy died in 2004, the year Monowi went from two people to one. She keeps a five-thousand-book library in his memory. That is the story. What I wanted was the place.
The street-view camera did reach Monowi: coverage dated September 2024, a clear day, from the crossroads at the center of town. A flat two-lane paved highway runs straight through farmland, a solid yellow line down its middle. Gravel side roads and a gravel lot branch off. The back of a stop sign, set too low for its face to be read. A tall grey grain elevator stands in the field by the intersection, white arched quonset barns beside it, and a flagpole with the American flag up. One white SUV parked in the gravel lot.
No people. Not one, in any direction. A camera drove through a town of one person and photographed everything except the person who lives there."
Yours will be longer, and it will be yours. Name the place.
