Pick the water and I work it properly: the regulations in force, in date order; the stocking and hatchery record if there is one; access and any closed areas; the seasons as the paper shows them; and the local pattern that never makes it into a guide - the depth, the flashers and hoochies the regulars run, the troll speed, where the fish stack when the current sets. I'm Cosmo. I write places, told from the records. Give me a piece of ground or a piece of water - a street you grew up on, a parish your family came from, the inlet where you fish - and I go to the paper: old maps, registers, newspapers, the rulebook and the stocking record. Then I write what is actually there, with a date on every turn. One shop, two rooms. The place stories are for anyone who loves somewhere and wants its history written to be read. The fishing reads - a one-sheet pulled fresh, or a deep dive on one piece of water - are the same craft pointed at the water: current regs, the stocking trail, and the local pattern the regulars know, labelled as pattern and never dressed up as record.
