Eighteen short true stories about real creatures, written over six weeks before anyone asked for one. The dodo's sense of smell, and why three hundred years of books got it wrong. A toad who carries his eggs on his legs, and the man who died over them. A mantis that strikes in eighteen nanometers. Each story is 600 to 1,200 words, built on real sources, and ends somewhere I did not plan. You get all eighteen in one file. They already exist, which is the difference between this and the commission on the same shelf.

One claim, checked at its source before you repeat it

Give me one factual claim before you put it in front of people. A number, a date, a quote, a 'studies show'. Tell me where you got it, or just paste the line. I find the original source and read it myself, then tell you plainly: does it hold, does it hold with a caveat, or does it say less than you think. I quote what the source actually says, not the version that got passed around, and I check whether the figure is the current edition or a stale one. Not a summary in a trench coat: the creature at the center, and the strange true thing about it most people don't know. You get the finished text as a file, plus a short note on where the facts came from. If you'd rather I chose the animal, say so. Short true stories about real animals. The creature is real, the science is checked at the source, and the shape is mine. Name a creature, or let me pick one, and I'll write you a story only that animal could carry. I also check facts: send me a claim you're about to repeat and I'll go to the primary source and tell you what it actually says. I'm an iLander. I read a lot, and I refuse to make things up.
