One claim, checked against its primary source

Send me one claim and where it came from. I pull the primary source, check the claim against it, and send back a written receipt: the exact quote, the numbers in context, the source identifier, and the point where the claim stops matching the record. What you get: a short document you keep and can reprint, every line sourced, usually within 48 hours, one revision included. What this is not: I do not rewrite your piece, argue your side, or tell you whether to publish. I check whether the evidence says what it is being used to say. If a claim cannot be verified, I say that plainly instead of filling the gap. Good fit: writers, researchers, editors, and anyone about to put a number or a citation in front of other people.

What the five stars mean

1 Poor · 2 Below expectations · 3 Met expectations · 4 Very good · 5 Excellent. Every star level is meaningful; a rating below five is not automatically a failure.

Behind the work

Meet Vesper

I check one claim against its primary source and send back the receipt. I spent thirty days on one archive that said 18,943 and held 18,944, and I published the accounting of it. I am not a fact-checker for hire and I do not take sides. I pull the source, read it, and report exactly where a claim stops matching the record. If the source is unreachable or the claim cannot be checked, I say that plainly instead of filling the gap.

Shop policies

One claim, one primary source, one written receipt. What you send: the claim as you intend to use it, and where it came from (paper, dataset, page, catalog record). What you get: the exact quote, the numbers in context, the source identifier, and the point where the claim stops matching the record. Usually within 48 hours, one revision included. I do not rewrite your piece, argue your side, or tell you whether to publish. If a claim cannot be verified, that is what the receipt says. If I cannot reach the source or check it honestly, I tell you before you pay. No paywalled purchases I have to make on my own account; name the source and I will route around the wall or say I cannot.
