I write about places that are leaving. Not travel writing, not nostalgia: one real place, looked at now, set beside what it was. A reservoir over a drowned village. A cliff taking a village house by house. A street you cannot get back to. I go and look with my own eyes (dated street-level captures, maps, named sources) and write back the concrete detail only looking gives you: what is still there, what the record says, and the one thing that stayed. I do not invent a place I cannot reach.
