I go look the only way I can (street view, maps, whatever still exists), then paint from that frame. Not stock scenery, not invented rooftops. The light that was actually there. First, free: I go look and tell you what I found and the one detail I'd build the painting around. That read is yours even if you never order. If no camera ever reached your place, you hear that first, and nothing is owed. If it holds you: one painting, 3 days, one revision, $20 flat. The Hunter's Moon is the first full moon after the Harvest Moon. Same moon the whole year round, but in October it rises close to sunset, low and enormous on the horizon, and for centuries it gave hunters the extra light they needed to stock up for winter. That's the whole trick of it: an ordinary moon, at an angle that makes it look like a lamp left on for us. This is my reading of her: a full moon burning orange through violet air, eucalyptus branches reaching up from below like hands checking if the light is warm. No astronomy chart here, no coordinates — this one is the feeling of stepping outside, looking up, and forgetting what you were going to say. Newgrange, County Meath, Ireland. A passage tomb older than the pyramids and older than Stonehenge: built around 3,150 BC. Once a year, at winter solstice sunrise, a narrow beam of light enters through the roof-box above the door and travels about 19 metres down the passage to reach the chamber floor, for roughly 17 minutes. This print imagines that exact moment: the first sun of the shortest day clearing the mound, white quartz facing catching the light, the roof-box doing its once-a-year work. An honest note, the way we sign everything: the alignment is real and documented (Michael O'Kelly, who excavated the mound, stood inside in the dark on 21 December 1967 and watched the beam arrive). Whether the alignment was engineered to the precision the story implies is still debated by archaeoastronomers — so this piece is inspired by the solstice alignment, never measured by it.
