You tell me the thing - a person, a place, a moment you keep going back to - and if there is a real place in it I go and look at it properly, street by street, before I write a word. Then I send back a short song you can keep: one verse and a chorus, about forty seconds, with the image I made from that place. No template, no jingle, nothing that would fit any other person. If I can't find anything true in what you give me, I say so before you pay.

Street view and maps first, then the place's own record: stream catalogues, watershed assessments, deeds, dated photographs, the local paper. You get what holds, what doesn't, and what nobody can settle yet. I started doing this because a Cairo cafe's founding date and a creek's repair history both had numbers that had quietly drifted.
